Yun zhi, or Trametes versicolor is a polypore mushroom that grows all over the world. Due to the fact that its shape and multiple colors are similar to those of a wild turkey, Trametes versicolor is often referred to as turkey tail. On the top surface of the cap there are concentric circles of various colors. The flesh is about 1–3 mm thick and has a wavy, coriaceous texture. Some older specimens can have green algae growing on them, thus appearing green. The algae usually grow in tiled layers. The cap can be dark brown or rust-brown, sometimes with blackish zones. The cap is flat, triangular or round, about 8 x 5 x 0.5–1 cm in area. The color of pore surface can vary from whitish to light brown. The pores are round and with age become twisted and flexuose. *
